Akelius Foundation first worked with SOS Children’s Villages Sweden in 2009, when the Foundation donated SEK 100 million to fund the running of a Children's Village in Tirupati, India.
Since then the Foundation has pledged over SEK 700 million to SOS Children’s Villages to fund its operations in seven countries.
In 2019 the Foundation entered into an agreement with SOS Children’s Villages,
pledging to double the gifts and contributions that SOS Children’s Villages received during November and December 2019.
The Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri wrote several articles about the campaign,
inspiring both companies and private persons to make donations.
When the 2019 campaign came to an end, SOS Children’s Villages had received SEK 40 million.
The Foundation doubled the amount to SEK 80 million.
The campaign was a collaboration between the Foundation and the aid organizations UNICEF, SOS Children's Villages, Doctors Without Borders and UNHCR.
