Akelius Foundation wants to help refugees learn the local language when settling in a new country.
For this purpose, the Foundation, in cooperation with UNICEF, developed a language course that anyone can use in order to learn a new language,
independent of language skills or languages spoken.
The course is available on computers, tablets and smartphones, and is free for everyone.
The language course is currently available in English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
So far, the language course has been used in projects in Greece, Lebanon, Mauretania, Italy, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, São Tomé, Príncipe and Kazakhstan.
The aim is for UNICEF to use the language course on a global level.
The Greek Ministry of Education’s Institute of Educational Policy recommends the Akelius platform as a tool for educators teaching Greek to refugee and migrant students.
